Review Specifications Compare Prices

Review Date: 10th Jan' 08

The Satellite X205 series features a number of Toshiba's gaming laptops. The recently released Satellite X205-S9810 is an entry-level model that doesn't bear as heavy a price tag as many other gaming machines, yet it can deliver some muscles for the gaming fun.

Satellite X205-S9810's performance is based on a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which unfortunately is not from the latest Penryn series of processors, and a NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT graphics card that features 512MB of dedicated memory. Toshiba has also packed in an enormous 3GB of RAM, while there are two hard drives of 160GB each.

To our dislike, the hard drives are not the faster ones with 7200RPM. Even though an all-purpose or entertainment laptop will have no problem with a 5400RPM drive, a true gaming machine that is bound to encounter high-speed action should have the faster if not the fastest of the drives available.

Satellite X205-S9810 is currently priced at $1499. At this price, in addition to the hardware components mentioned above, the notebook also features a dual layer DVD writer with LabelFlash technology that you can make use of in printing custom images over your DVD's.

Toshiba Satellite X205 has an impressive Flare Crimson exterior that changes color depending upon its surroundings. If the room is dark, the casing will look almost black with no signs of red color; let there be light around and great looking red shows up.

Satellite X205 has a large and comfortable keyboard with a separate number pad. The keys lack the usual raised edges but typing experience is not bad. It's interesting to note that the touchpad can be converted into a shortcut pad when desired, you just have to press an area located at the top right corner of the pad. This shortcut pad features six buttons of which three can be programmed by the user and a volume control dial that replaces the scroll function of the touchpad.
