Notebook Reviews > Toshiba Satellite > M30X-S181ST

Review Specifications Compare Prices

Out of all the Notebooks in the Toshiba Satellite series, here is one that should only be considered by those users on an extremely tight budget and looking for only the bare minimum basics.

This group will probably consist of students and folks who use computers at home. Additionally these users will have to be contend with the weakness of a very poor battery life, which strikingly is not very important to this group.

To fully understand where this particular model is coming from, you will need to know that the Toshiba Satellite M30X and M35X family of notepads are really the same machine. They are really very much the same system except that the Toshiba Satellite M35X usually comes already configured while the M30X is the one that can be customized.

Still, both the M35X and the M30X series come in quite a number of different configurations and specifications. The main difference that one will quickly be able to distinguish between one model and another is in the processors driving them. The low-end versions will tend to run on the Intel Celeron M chip. On the other hand, the top of the range laptop models in this family will tend to be powered by the top performing and rather speedy Intel Pentium M Dothan.

There are a few other differences. For instance they will tend to have differing operating systems. Some will be on Windows XP Professional and others will tend to run XP Home. The other aspect that will be unique with some family members here is that the more expensive Toshiba Satellites within this range will tend to include a special five in one slot designed to take certain flash memory cards.

Otherwise all Toshiba Satellite computers in this family of notepads will boast of the following features. A wide 15.4 inch display, a DVD/CD-RW drive, a wireless card (802.11b/g) and 64MB of shared video RAM running an Intel 855GME graphics chip.

The Toshiba Satellite M30X-S181ST specifically runs on an Intel Celeron M chip with a speed of 1.4 GHz with a RAM of 256 MB DDR SDRAM.
