Review Date: 18th Dec' 07

The new Toshiba Satellite M205-S7452 is Toshiba's latest offering in the budget notebook market. For under $1,000, it offers such attractive features as a 14.1 inch screen and a Core 2 Duo processor. It also packs a ton of additional features that makes it perfect for multimedia applications.

The Toshiba Satellite M205 is housed in a fancy metallic onyx blue case (which looks mostly black at a distance) that weighs in at 5.5 pounds. Unlike most laptops, it does not have a latch to hold it shut, but instead simply relies on its strong hinge mechanism to keep it closed. The outside features plenty of ports including a media card slot, fours USB ports, and iLink.

The monitor is of high quality with WXGA resolution. The glossy display is quite bright resulting in vivid graphics and video. As far as the keyboard goes, it has both its ups and down. The keys are well textured and cushioned and are practically silent when typing. There are six dedicated buttons for media applications that are placed in a row above the keyboard. However, these buttons do not feature LED lights on them, so they are difficult to distinguish between one another in the dark. The M205 comes equipped with a microphone and webcam making it ready right out of the box for instant messaging purposes. The built in speakers performed better than most other laptops in its price range.

Inside the computer is a powerful Core 2 Duo processor along with plenty of storage. It features an uncanny 160 gigabyte that sets it apart from most of its competition. It comes with an integrated Intel X3100 graphics card and, while not powerful enough to consider the M205 a gaming machine per se, it is quite powerful in its own right. One downside to the M205 which is a common complaint with other Toshiba models is the amount of crapware that comes preinstalled on the machine. This affects the overall speed of the M205, but the problem can be easily fixed by manually uninstalling each unwanted program.

The Toshiba Satellite M205-S7452 gives you a lot of bang for the buck, especially compared to similar models in the under 1,000 dollar price range. Its Core 2 Duo processor and 160 gigabyte hard drive makes it perfect for people who need a fairly powerful and reliable notebook that can be used for a variety of different functions.
