Review Date : 19th November' 2006
The
Toshiba Satellite M115-S3144 enhances the M-series with a Core
Duo 2 processor. From it's hardware profile, featuring a whopping
2GB RAM, it is clear that this notebook is not meant for the average
Joe.
The Satellite M-series is rather known for multimedia notebooks and so
is the case with this model too. It comes pre-installed with Windows
XP Media Center 2005 Edition, the de facto operating system for today's
entertainment models. Media buttons are located right below the power
button through which one can enjoy music or videos without booting the
system first. However, the absence of a discrete video card makes it somewhat
less competitive in the mobile computing & entertainment arena. Not
to forget that the display is also 14 inches only, diagonal widescreen
though with TruBrite technology.
Currently priced at over $1200, Satellite M115-S3144 is aimed at the middle
end of the market. With weight starting at 5.24 pounds, it suits
those looking for a thin and light notebook that excels in multi application
driven environment. It also boasts plenty of storage capacity with a 120GB
hard disk coupled with a dual layer DVD drive
Wireless connectivity is a piece of cake, thanks to the standard Intel
Pro/Wireless 3945ABG that can be switched on or off via the easy button
located at the front. Battery is claimed to last up to 2 hours &
45 minutes.
Overall, Satellite M115-S3144 boasts of massive RAM and a 64-bit Core
Duo 2 processor, however it would have been much better an entertainment
laptop with a dedicated graphics card.
