The VAIO VGN-NR160E/S is Sony's new entry into the low price notebook
market. It boasts such fancy features as a Core 2 Duo processor and a
large hard drive. It has a slim design and comes in three eye-catching
colors: Granite, Wenge, and Silk. However, the most attractive feature
of the new Sony VAIO VGN-NR160E/S is its price tag.
At $829, Sony's new laptop will no doubt turn the heads of those looking
to buy a budget entry level notebook. It's sleekly designed and features
a crisp 15.4-inch WXGA XBrite-Eco LCD monitor. It has plenty of USB inputs
(four in total) and accepts both Memory Stick and SD cards. Its keyboard
is identical to those found on more expensive VAIO notebooks with ergonomically
designed keys and programmable buttons. Another feature that is usually
reserved for higher end model notebooks is the impressive 160 gigabyte
hard drive (double that of the competition) that comes standard with the
VAIO VGN-NR160E/S.
Not everything is perfect with Sony's new notebook. The casing of the
notebook feels cheap in comparison with other VAIO notebooks and lacks
the durability that similarly priced notebooks offer. For this reason,
the VGN-NR160E/S is more suited for home use than as a portable computing
device. The notebook also comes with tons of crapware that hinders the
processing speed of the system. However, this problem can be easily solved
by uninstalling unneeded programs immediately after purchase.
By offering a host of useful features in an attractive encasing, Sony
has made itself a force to be reckoned with in the budget notebook market.
The incredible price of the VAIO VGN-NR160E/S more than makes up for its
few drawbacks. With its fast processor, huge storage space, and crystalline
display, the VAIO VGN-NR160E/S is an intelligent choice for those looking
for high end features in an affordable package.
