Non-power
users might find all they need in the Hewlett-Packard iPAQ rx1950. As one
of the first HP handhelds to run Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, it
is easy to operate and doesn't confuse users with a bunch of excessive features.
Some of the highlights of the rx1950 are:
- Wireless Internet with an integrated Ethernet card
- Voice recorder and playback
- Email software and web browser included
- Five included devices - carrying case, microphone, AC adapter, USB
cable and speaker
- Adequate memory of 32MB
- Lightweight at 4.4 ounces
- Small, measuring 4.5 inches tall and 2.8 inches wide and just over
a half inch thick
- A basic software package including note pad, calculator, presentations,
word processor and spreadsheet
- Long battery life - about 6 hours of continuous useds
- A low price tag for an HP PDA of about $275
The old saying of "you get what you pay for"
holds true for the rx1950. While you won't spend all you could on the device,
you might find a few things missing, like:
- Storage space - 32MB might leave you wishing
for more, especially if you plan on loading movies or high-end games
- No Bluetooth compatibility
- Soft resets needed a few times a day,
when use is high
- Documentation for Windows Mobile operating
system is lacking, both from HP and Microsoft
The rx1950 is a great deal
if you are looking for a Hewlett-Packard handheld. You won't get the bells
and whistles but you will find a quality PDA adequate for work use.
