If
you are looking for a sleek, light weight and durable PDA, the Hewlett-Packard
iPAQ hx2495 Pocket PC could be the right model for you. While HP offers
more than a dozen models of handhelds, this one is almost smack dab in the
middle of their price range.
The benefits of buying the iPAQ hx2495 include:
- Windows Mobile 5 operating system
- Reasonable price of about $280
- Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
(viewing only)
- Integrated MP3 player and video play through Windows Media Player
- WiFi access using the built-in wireless Ethernet card
- Bluetooth compatibility
- Rechargeable lithium battery with longer life than previous models
- Installing additional applications utilizing the external memory very
easy
- Removable memory compatibility includes compact flash type II, MMC,
SDIO and Secure Digital
- Infrared transfer capability
- Speedy processor at a whopping 520 MHz
- GPS capability so you'll never be lost again
- 1 year warranty (though this is standard for most PDAs, HP doesn't
cover all it's handhelds for a year)
Weaknesses of the hx2495 include:
- Connecting to the Internet sometimes troublesome
- Backup software for Windows Mobile 5 operating
system not yet reliable
- PowerPoint doesn't have the ability to
edit or create presentations
- 3GP, MPEG, AVI, ASF, WMV and MPEG4 are
not playable on Windows Mobile 5
Whether you are a new handheld
user or a seasoned PDA'er, the HP iPAQ hx2495 offers some wonderful features.
It has it's flaws as well, but most are related to the operating system
rather than the pocket PC itself.
