An Upgrade Of The Popular T41
Notebook Reviews > IBM ThinkPad > T42

Review Specifications Compare Prices

For entrepreneurs and professionals, the IBM ThinkPad T42 is a rather excellent choice for a powerful laptop that is priced reasonably.

The thin and light IBM ThinkPad T42 is in fact an update to the extremely popular T41. And priced at only $2,000 for its basic configuration, this computer has to be the lowest priced of laptops that run on the latest Intel Pentium M upgrade.

If looks can sometimes deceive, then the IBM ThinkPad T42 looks rather modest in appearance and design when you consider all the features it boasts of including the latest Intel processor. The larger model weighs 5.7 pounds and has an impressive 15 inch screen while the smaller version has a 14 inch screen and weighs in at less than 5 pounds.

One of the things that the IBM ThinkPad T42 has going for it, is the broad and extremely comfortable keyboard that has plenty of space towards the front end for your palms to comfortably rest on.

Standard specs include a rather small 30 GB hard drive and a CD-RW/DVD drive. If you want an upgrade on your hard drive, you will need to pay dearly for the 60GB or 80 GB options with each costing more than $200.

Of great interest is the fact that the IBM ThinkPad T42 comes loaded with IBM's latest Rescue and Recovery platform. The main feature of this software is the access to a secondary operating system that allows you to surf the net and recover data from your hard drive, even when your primary operating system is unable to boot.

Users will also be able to enjoy other usual IBM features like the strong metal hinges connecting the lid to the body which allow for rugged use and the usual wear and tear of daily and frequent notepad use.
