Continued From LifeBook S6510 Review Page 1

The S6510 features a removable optical drive that can not only be replaced with a secondary battery but also left out to further reduce the overall weight to just 3.7 pounds. That's why, it's considered more of an ultra portable than a thin & light notebook.

The usual array of ports and expansion slots is present on the S6510 including 3 USB ports, Ethernet, VGA Out, PC-Card Slot, FireWire, Mic & headphone jacks and a 3-in-1 memory card reader. There's also a modem jack for those who might still benefit from dial-up connections. Unfortunately the S6510 comes sans an ExpressCard slot.

For its class the Lifebook S6510 performs well above expectations with everyday tasks such as surfing, office applications and such being handled smoothly. Gaming performance may not be stellar due to an integrated chip but this is a business notebook and as such the Intel X3100 graphics chip is more than capable.

As a business notebook security is chief and Fujitsu realizes that. The LifeBook S6510 comes with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and a biometric fingerprint reader allowing users to secure their files from unauthorized access. Additionally, the S6510 also offers physical security features in the form of 2 anti-theft lock slots and the optional Computrace LoJack service at a nominal fee starting from $50 / Year which is more than reasonable considering the much bigger investment it's protecting - your notebook and more importantly, your data.

For connectivity on the S6510 you get a draft-N Wi-Fi module allowing access to latest wireless networks (along with the older standards) but unfortunately Cellular broadband in not an option here and while it may not have caught on as a standard yet it would've been of great value to the traveling professional.

As usual battery life correlates to your usage patterns; that said, even under heavy load the S6510 manages to last almost 3 hours on its standard 6-cell battery, while with light usage, battery life can reach as long as about 5 hours. Impressive indeed.

For the business travelers the Fujitsu LifeBook S6510 is like a prayer answered. Offering a 14.1" display in an ultraportable form, no longer will you have to sacrifice screen real estate for portability. Add to that the overall solid build quality, superb components and up to par performance and you have yourself an irresistible notebook. While we won't worry much about the pricey tag, option for mobile broadband would be missed.
