Notebook Reviews > Dell Inspiron > 1200 Series

Review Specifications Compare Prices

Some consumers out there want a basic, already configured machine which does not cost them much. Inspiron has an entry level notebooks that matches your idealism of buying a cost effective and yet a respectable system. It is a fair answer for everyday tasks like emailing, internet surfing, writing documents and doing small office tasks. With Inspiron 1200, you are able to fulfil your basic computing needs in a portable fashion.

The Inspiron 1200 Entry Level consists of three models:

  • Advanced
  • Enhanced
  • Base
These three models vary from one another in terms of Processor, Memory, Hard drive, and Display screens. The unit is 6.33 pounds heavy and 1.46" thin. This slim machine possesses features that are suitable for a home worker or a basic computer user. The Silver cover and black body form the entire Inspiron 1200 Entry Level machine with sides dedicated to the ports, sockets and DVD stuff such as control buttons, DVD ROM etc. Keyboard is good and handy and is a conventional one. The mouse pad is built-in but very small to adjust.

It has a display screen varying from 14.1" on Base model to 15" XGA offered by Enhanced and Advanced models. XGA LCD Panel offers a good and sharp multimedia experience to the user.

The unit has an integrated Intel Media Accelerator 900 Graphics. The Intel Media Accelerator 900 can deliver over 1.5 times faster performance than the previous graphic cards. You can play movies; work with the MS Office applications easily. It also has acceleration for the Microsoft DirectX 9 for 3D performance. Still this Intel graphics card, Media Accelerator 900 does not work any great for the 3D graphics. But then, this is a portable solution for everyday tasks and not a gamer's heaven.

The entry levels are slower than the other Inspiron series notebooks but you can do a lot of home work on them. They aren't a bad choice for normal home office applications, unless you bring over some heavy stuff.

The new Inspiron 1200 Entry Level is not only affordable but has a decent technical specs profile. The basic specifications are:
  • Mobile Intel Celeron M Processor 350 to 360
  • Operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Memory varying from 256 MB to 512 MB
  • Hard drive varying from 30 GB to 40 GB
  • 24XCD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
  • Integrated Network Card
