Review Specifications Compare Prices

Review Date: 30th July' 2006

The TravelMate 4222WLMi is Acer's latest offering for the budget-conscious business user; packed with high performance, great connectivity and ample storage options, all at a very reasonable price.

For display, the TravelMate 4222WLMi has gorgeous 15.4 inches widescreen display that offers sharp and bright images at its native resolution of 1280x800. The wide aspect ratio caters to the business user's need to open multiple document windows simultaneously without things getting too cramped. To add to that effect, Acer includes its GridVista software which allows the user to divide the screen into a specified number of grids and assign certain programs to their own specific grid area every time they're launched.

Backing up that screen is Intel's Graphics Media Accelerator 950 integrated graphics chip. With full support for Microsoft's DirectX 9 and the ability to share up to 224MB of system memory, this chip meets (and exceeds) the minimum requirements to run the Aero GUI in the upcoming Windows Vista OS. Forget about any serious 3D gaming though, this chip is not meant for that. In fact, the TravelMate 4222MLWi is targeted at business users and as such gaming performance was not really a design factor.

Other components within the TravelMate 4222WLMi are top-notch and ensure a smooth multi-tasking computing experience. There's the Intel Core Duo T2300 processor running at 1.66 GHz and supporting that processor is 1GB of DDR2 memory. Storage options are aplenty with the 4222WLMi, first off there's the huge 120GB hard drive fitted with Acer's DASP (Disk Anti-Shock Protection) technology. There's also the 5-in-1 media card reader capable of handling SD, MMC, xD, MemoryStick and MemoryStick Pro cards. Finally, there's the DVD Super-Multi burner for CD and DVD creation including support for dual-layer DVD discs.

Connectivity wise, the TravelMate 4222MLWi covers all basis with support for IEEE, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi with Acer's SignalUp technology giving you enhanced antenna efficiency. There's also integrated Ethernet support with support for the WOL (Wake-On-LAN) feature. Finally there's the customary 56k Dialup fax modem with the Wake-On-Ring feature.

Overall, the Acer TravelMate 4222WLMi is a serious business notebook with enough processing power to handle the most demanding corporate user, all at an affordable price.
